# The Context Interview: write your first context document

From tuitiv's free resources: tuitiv.ai/free/context

## Six documents, one page each

Together they're everything a very good new hire would need to know in week one. Start with the business. It's the one every other answer leans on.

1. **Business: What you sell, to whom, and how it works.** Prices, the team, the constraints. Start here.
2. **Role: What you do and what you're accountable for.** And what success is measured on, by you or by someone else.
3. **Objectives: What you're working on this quarter and this year.** And why. This is what "what should I focus on?" gets judged against.
4. **Stakeholders: The people you communicate with most.** And how each of them likes to receive things. Brief or detailed, numbers or story.
5. **Brand: How your work should look.** Colours, fonts, the rules, and examples of right and wrong.
6. **Voice: How you write and speak.** Sign-offs, phrases you overuse, and the words you'd never use.

## Your first document in five steps

1. **Open a fresh chat** and paste prompt 01. Have your website open in another tab in case you need a fact.
2. **Answer out loud if you can.** Dictation gets you a richer document, because you'll ramble, and the ramble is where the detail is.
3. **Read the document it writes.** Correct anything wrong in the chat and ask for a new version. Don't edit the document by hand yet.
4. **Run prompt 03.** It reads the document back and asks about anything vague or missing.
5. **Save it where AI will read it every time.** In Claude, add it to a project (or save it as business.md in your project folder in Cowork). Then do the next document with prompt 02.

## The prompts

01 writes the business document. 02 does the other five. 03 checks them. 04 puts them to work.

### 01. Interview me about my business

Paste into a fresh chat. It will ask the first question and wait.

```
I want to write a one-page context document about my business, so that AI understands it before I ask for anything. Interview me to write it. Start with the first question straight away.
Ask one question at a time and wait for my answer. Cover:
→ what I sell, and what each thing costs
→ who buys it, and why they buy from me rather than someone else
→ how the business works: where clients come from, what happens after they buy
→ who's on the team, or that it's just me
→ what's working, what isn't, and what's constraining me right now
No more than ten questions, including follow-ups. If an answer is vague, ask once for a real example. If it's still vague, or I say I don't know, move on and note it as a gap.
Then write the document, headed "Business context", under these headings in this order: What I sell, Who buys and why, How the business works, Team, What's working and what isn't, What's constraining me. No more than 400 words.
Use my words where you can. If something I said is an opinion, write it as mine ("I think..."), not as a fact. Don't add anything I didn't tell you: no estimates, no calculations, no advice, no summary line, no adjectives I didn't use. Don't make it sound like a brochure.
At the bottom, under "Still to fill in", list anything I couldn't answer and anything you didn't get to ask. Give me the finished document in one block I can copy.
```

### 02. The same interview for the next document

Swap in the document name. Paste your business document underneath so it doesn't ask what it already knows.

```
Here's my business context document: [paste].
Now I want a one-page [role / objectives / stakeholders / brand / voice] document. Interview me to write it. Start with the first question straight away, one question at a time, no more than ten including follow-ups.
Don't ask me anything the business document already answers. If an answer is vague, ask once for an example, then move on and note it as a gap. For voice, ask me to paste two or three pieces of my own writing and work from those.
Then write it: no more than 400 words, plain headings, my words where you can. Write opinions as mine, not as facts. Nothing I didn't tell you: no estimates, no advice. List gaps at the bottom under "Still to fill in", and give it to me in one block I can copy.
```

### 03. Read it back and find the gaps

Run on each document before you save it.

```
Here's my [business] context document: [paste].
Read it as a new hire would on their first day. What would you still need to ask me before you could do good work for this business? What's vague enough that you'd end up guessing? Is anything contradictory?
Ask me about the three most important gaps, one at a time. Then give me the updated document. Don't add anything I didn't say.
```

### 04. Read this before every task

In Claude, paste into the project's instructions once the documents are in the project.

```
Before every task in this project, read my context documents: [business, role, objectives, stakeholders, brand, voice].
Use them to decide what I mean when I'm vague. Write in my voice. Judge priorities against my objectives. If something I ask for contradicts a document, tell me once before you start. If a document is missing something you need, ask me rather than guess.
```

## Want all six done with you?

The free AI Amplified plugin interviews you and writes all six documents in Claude, then sets up the project folder around them. It's on the Starter Pack (tuitiv.ai/free/setup) page, with the walkthrough.

## When it's not quite right

**It asked everything in one go**
Reply: "One question at a time, please. Start again." Answers to one question are always better than answers to ten.

**The document reads like a brochure**
Tell it: "Plain facts, my words, no marketing language." Then ask it to cut anything you wouldn't say to a new hire.

**It filled in things I didn't say**
Ask: "Mark every line I didn't tell you directly." Delete those, or answer them properly.

**AI still doesn't seem to use it**
It has to be where AI reads it every time: in the project, and named in the project instructions with prompt 04. Pasting it once into one chat doesn't carry over.
